The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) achieves ISO 17024:2012 Certification

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has achieved a significant milestone, securing the ISO 17024:2012 accreditation. This international standard for personnel certification highlights KMPDC’s dedication to maintaining top-tier quality and competence in the registration of medical and dental practitioners.

ISO 17024:2012 ensures the impartiality and consistency of the certification process for individuals. KMPDC’s new accreditation con rms that it has met the stringent requirements for certifying doctors, dentists, and community oral health officers.

Dr. David Kariuki, CEO of KMPDC, expressed his excitement about the accreditation, stating, “We are thrilled to receive ISO 17024:2012 accreditation. This accreditation signifies that KMPDC adheres to internationally recognized standards, instilling confidence in the certification process among stakeholders. Mr. Livingstone Omuchere Bumbe

Mr. Livingstone Omuchere Bumbe is an accomplished professional with a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of Public Sector Management. He serves as a Deputy Director at the National Treasury Mr Bumbe is renowned for his in-depth knowledge and commitment to overseeing the analysis of the Yield Curve and current market dynamics to inform critical auction decisions. He plays an instrumental role in ensuring the regular review of legislative and regulatory frameworks that impact domestic borrowing. His timely briefings to the Cabinet Secretary in charge of the National Treasury have been pivotal in shaping strategic decisions in this regard.

Mr. Bumbe is also involved in monitoring and evaluating the performance of the domestic borrowing program and providing invaluable insights on risk management in domestic debt markets, covering market and interest rates risks

He holds a Master’s degree in Public Sector Management, from Africa University, Mutare, Zimbabwe.

Mr. Ashford Mwiti Kirimi Kathaara

Mr. Ashford Mwiti Kirmi Kathaara was appointed to the Council. He brings to the Council an extensive background marked by exemplary record of fiscal governance and planning. His professional journey attests to a commitment to precision, an unwavering dedication to fiscal prudence, and proven ability to navigate the complexities of financial management. This augurs well for the Council’s continued pursuit of excellence in healthcare regulation.

Prof. Rose Jepchumba Kosgei

Prof. Rose Jepchumba Kosgei is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist, Gynecologic Oncologist, and Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Nairobi, where she coordinates the Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship program. She brings over two decades of experience spanning clinical care, academia, health systems research, and policy development. Her work focuses on the use of routinely collected data to inform evidence-based decision-making and strengthening health systems. She has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications and technical papers that inform national policy, clinical guidelines, and health systems practice.

Prof. Kosgei has contributed extensively to the development of national standards, guidelines, and strategic frameworks for the Ministry of Health and multilateral partners. In addition to her academic and public sector roles, she brings a private sector perspective through board-level governance and technical engagements supporting private and non-state health providers in service delivery, quality improvement, and clinical standardization.

She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Moi University, a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Science in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Health Sciences from Ghent University. Internationally, she served as an Executive Board Member of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) from 2015 to 2021, representing the Africa and Eastern Mediterranean region.

Mr. Musa Kiptanui

Musa Kiptanui, BSc is a highly accomplished oral health professional with over two decades of dedicated service in clinical practice, leadership, and professional regulation in Kenya. Currently serving as Principal Oral Health Officer at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Mr. Kiptanui has held several key leadership positions at the hospital, including Oral Health Section Head (2010–2015), ISO Representative for the Directorate of Dental Services, and member of multiple strategic committees such as the MTRH College of Health Sciences Curriculum Development Committee for Higher National Diploma in Oral Restorative Dentistry. He brings his extensive clinical and leadership expertise to the national regulatory body and is serving his second term. A proud member of the Oral Health Association of Kenya (OHAK) since 1999, Mr. Kiptanui is known for his patient-centered approach, strategic decision-making, and dedication to continuous professional development. He has actively participated in numerous national and institutional initiatives, including curriculum development, scientific conferences, leadership programs, and capacity-building workshops for board members and CEOs.

Mr. Kiptanui holds a Bachelor of Science in Oral Health from Mount Kenya University (2019) and a Diploma in Oral Health from Kenya Medical Training College (1999). His career is defined by excellence in clinical service, mentorship, ethical leadership, and a passion for elevating standards in oral healthcare delivery both locally and beyond. He continues to drive positive impact through his roles at MTRH and KMPDC, contributing to stronger regulatory frameworks and improved oral health outcomes for Kenyans.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (“Council” of “KMPDC”) is a body corporate
